There are different forms for different categories of tax payers, for filing of their income tax returns. Every individual has to choose the appropriate form and fill it accurately.

ITR 1 Form: This form is for the individuals whose income is arising from salary, pension, family pension or interests.

ITR 2 Form: Any individual or HUF having income from salary, pension, other sources (such as dividends, interests, rental income from machinery/buildings, winning from lotteries, crosswords, races etc), house property or capital gains on sale or investment of property has to accurately complete IT Form 2.

ITR 3 Form: Any individual/HUF who is a partner in the firms and does not carry out any business or profession under any proprietorship have to declare their income in the IT Form 3. They also have to furnish the details of their salary, pension, income from other sources (like winnings from lotteries, crosswords or dividends etc), house property, and capital gains.

ITR 4 Form: Individuals or HUF’s having income from a proprietary of business or professions have to submit IT Form 4 duly completed, along with accurate details of his salary, pension, other sources (such as dividends, interests, rental income from machinery/buildings, winning from lotteries, crosswords, races etc), house property or capital gains on sale or investment of property.

ITR 5 Form: For Firms, Association of persons(AOP), Body of Individuals(BOI) and Local authority the details of their income from various sources of funds, capital gains, house property, business and fringe benefit tax have to be furnished in the IT Form 5.

ITR 6 Form: IT Form 6 has to be completed by the Companies other than those claiming exemption under section 11. It includes details of income from various sources of funds, capital gains on sale or investment of property, house property, business and fringe benefit tax.

ITR 7 Form: This form is applicable to the Trusts. It includes the details of income from other sources (like dividends, interests, rental income from machinery/buildings, winning from lotteries, crosswords, races etc), house property, capital gains on sale or investment of property and fringe benefit tax. This form is not available for e-filing of returns.

ITR 8 Form: This form is only for computation and taxing of Fringe benefits.

ITR V Form: ITR – V is a verification form where in the details of Fringe Benefit or Return of Income in the Form ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4, ITR-5, ITR-6 and ITR-8 are transmitted electronically without digital signature.
