How to Apply for PAN

Form 49A can be obtained from the offices of UTI Investor Services ltd. or through IT PAN Service Centres, at a cost of Rs. 5 each.

The application should be deposited along with a fee of Rs. 60/- with the IT PAN Service Centre. Under Tatkal Scheme, processing fee of Rs. 150/- shall be payable by Demand Draft drawn in favour of "UTI-ISL A/c - PAN Card' payable at Mumbai/Delhi/Kolkata/Chennai/Hyderabad.

The UTI Investor Services Ltd. office shall issue the PAN and a multi-purpose laminated PAN card within 15 days of application.

PAN to be quoted on the following documents/ correspondance :

1. An individual shall quote PAN in all his returns to, or correspondance with income tax authority.

2. It should be quoted in all challans for the payment of any sum due under this act.

3. It should be quoted in all documents pertaining to such transactions as may be prescribed by the Board in the interests of the revenue.

4. It should be used to intimate the Assessing Officer for any change in the name, address or nature of business on the basis of which PAN was allotted earlier.

5(a) Any person receiving any sum or income on which tax is to be deducted at source, shall furnish his PAN to the person responsible for deducting [Sec. 139A (5A)]

(b) Any person responsible for deducting tax at source (TDS) shall be required to quote the payee's PAN in all returns/statements, quarterly statements and certificates relating to such TDS.[Sec. 139A(5B)]
